Having a basil carcinoma on the side of my ear/face was located in a very delicate and sensitive area and my physical appearance is extremely important in my profession. I was referred to Dr. Massey to have a cyst removed. I can’t believe what a great job he did! The procedure was painless and even right after surgery, there were literally no visible stitches. As I have been a seamstress all my life I was really impressed with his technique. No one wants an unsightly scar. It has only been a couple of weeks and the incision is almost unnoticeable. He is also very kind and personable. Too many doctors are arrogant, condescending and do not treat you with compassion. Dr. Massey is none of these things. I highly recommend him and want to thank him and his staff.

If there was a way to give 10 stars to Dr. Massey I would!! Last June my roommate and dear friend began her first steps in a scary journey with Melanoma skin cancer. She was bounced from one specialist to another and was finally guided to Dr. Massey. This gentleman was calm, polite and exceptional in his treatment of my beloved friend. My friend is nervous by nature and was also going through the death of her significant other when she got the news that she would need surgery A.S.A.P. to remove the skin cancer on her face. She would need MOHS surgery and skin transplant for Melanoma in situ. Dr. Massey and his incredible team were sweet, warm and comforting professionals. From beginning to end!(There were multiple visits and procedures.) Dr. Massey answered all questions and helped keep my dear friend from panic by always smiling at her and offering encouragement. Going through this was far from easy but Dr. Massey got her through it. The scar and end result far exceeded our best hopes! Dr. Massey has a great bedside manner and is an excellent surgeon. He has an impressive background and I am told is THE go-to doctor in southern California for MOHS surgery. My internist at Cedars-Sinai told me there is only one Mohs surgeon he can recommend in the whole LA region, namely Dr. Massey, even though he is not affiliated with Cedars-Sinai hospital. I had my surgery and reconstructive surgery done and the experience was nothing short of amazing and nobody even notices the place in the middle of my right cheek where he operated.

I highly recommend Dr. Ralph Massey. I have had two Mohs surgery procedures on my face. I have been impressed with his high degree of expertise, professionalism, warmth, and efficiency. He explained clearly and specifically each step of the process. One procedure was on the tip of my nose. Dr. Massey is amazing. I went to him for basal cell removal and surgery. It was something I had been putting off for way too long, but Dr. Massey didn’t make me feel like an idiot. His personality and bedside manner make you really comfortable, especially when you are dealing with something scary like a basal cell tumor. The procedure for both the excision and the stitching was so well done-I am kicking myself for not dealing with it sooner when it was a lot smaller. He explained each part of the process thoroughly as well as what to expect. Almost zero pain or discomfort. He is an excellent surgeon. His staff is equally friendly and knowledgeable. Best surgeon ever. I cannot recommend him enough. The most skilled surgeon. He 200% is the best for Mohs and reconstruction. I would fly across the world if I have to get Mohs and reconstructive surgery again. I had my nose reconstructed by Dr. Massey due to Basel Cell and it was a very difficult spot. I went to see Dr. Massey for a partial blepharoplasty which was affecting my vision. He planned the procedure intricately, chose the perfect spot for incision to maintain a natural look, and performed the surgery quickly with agility and precision. The recovery time was surprisingly fast (only minor discoloration after 1 week and nearly 100% several days later). He called me and was attentive during the recovery and scheduled several follow-on visits just to be sure.
Dr. Massey is reserved but friendly and highly skilled. He is a consummate professional and is highly recommended.

I happened to come to Dr. Massey by chance and I am thrilled that I found him. He is such a personable and comfortable doctor to be around and I feel I will never have to look for another Dermatologist ever again. I was referred to Dr. Massey by my local dermatologist to have a mole removed near my eye – a sensitive location that my doc wasn’t comfortable dealing with. From the initial communication to my visit, consult and procedure, Dr. Massey was great; professional, calm, encouraging and confidence-inspiring.
I’m an adult male and was there for a medical procedure, but he also does cosmetic work. He’s English and trained in England (his waiting room wall is covered in certificates), and he is, according to my excellent dermatologist, very highly regarded. So I had no reservations about trusting his skills and instincts.
In case you ever need a Mohs surgery, Dr. Massey consulted and removed the mole on day one, then sent me home with a bandaged wound overnight, to then come back the following day for reconstruction. Each procedure took less than 2 hours.
And the end result has been great so far. Very little scarring, much of his work has all but disappeared. Nice clean offices and operating room up in a high rise in Santa Monica’s medical neighborhood, plenty of reading materials in the waiting room. Not sure about the costs as it’s going through my insurance (Anthem Blue Cross), but so far so good! P.S. The building has parking for $8/hour, but there are usually 2-hour meters on the street.

Dr. Massey is a marked professional. He truly cares about his craft and his patients. I was referred to Dr. Massey for cyst excision by my dermatologist. I went to my first appointment hoping that I could get my procedure done the same day. Dr. Ralph Massey is a gifted surgeon. In 2011, he removed a basal cell carcinoma from my forehead and left no visible scar. Today he performed Mohs surgery on my shin. He is an artist who truly cares about his patients. He takes his time with you and has infinite patience for any question you might have. It is very easy to make an appointment, the entire staff is very professional and there is no long wait time in the waiting or examining room on your appointment day. Dr. Massey and his staff try to make the whole process as efficient and painless as possible. While I hope to never have another Mohs surgery, if I do need one, Dr. Massey will be the surgeon!

I was referred to Dr Massey for Mohs surgery and an excision by my regular dermatologist. The scheduling procedure was painless, and I found the staff to be friendly and efficient. Dr Massey removed a melanoma and squamous cell carcinoma in two separate procedures. He took the time to explain everything he was about to do, and even talked through the procedures as he was doing them (on my request). Not only did he do an amazing job of stitching me back together (the scars are healing beautifully), but in a way I actually enjoyed the whole process. I went in for a very simple procedure (a routine check for skin cancer), so all I can judge on was the treatment for that. Was seen within 5 minutes of my appointment time, doctor came into the treatment room within another 5 minutes, and he finished the check in just a few minutes more. Professional attitude, while still friendly . . . this didn’t matter much to me–given the routine nature of my visit–but I am sure that this bedside manner would be very very important to patients undergoing any high-stress treatment.
I would not hesitate to recommend this doctor to family or friends.

I have been to Dr Massey twice (including today) and he is excellent. He was very kind when I was nervous and he is quick. I had basil Cell removed twice.
I like he sew you up the next day as less trama in one day and he does it in a surgery room.
His office is cramped and I wish more space but that is just the way it is. You are going for the doctor and he is worth it. I met nice people in there today and we all were rooting for each other.

Dr. Massey removed a basel cell carcinoma from my abdomen. The office is extremely well-run with polite, personable staff. You see the doctor within 15 minutes of the scheduled appointment time and he is patient & attentive, and explains everything very clearly. I had a cyst on my forehead which burst. It became red and swollen, and I needed to be seen quickly. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a dermatologist, so I saw one in Redondo Beach. He was not very pleasant, and its actually hurt when he drained it because he was pressing so hard. I let him know that the anesthesia wasn’t working well, but he just kept pinching and pressing my forehead, so I figured the forehead must be difficult to anesthetize. After this beating, my whole forehead became swollen and it took 2 weeks for it go down.
That’s a friend referred me to Dr. Massey, and I couldn’t be happier! I saw him 3 weeks after the cyst was drained, and he removed the cyst surgically the same day. His manner is very professional, knowledgeable, and comforting. The surgery was totally painless, the post-op course was very mild, and the swelling was minimal. I didn’t need to take any pain medication!

I took my Mom to see Dr. Massey yesterday, 9-14-09. He performs Dermatologic Surgery, MOHS surgery and Cosmetic Surgery. We were referred to him by our dermatologist to remove a cancerous lesion at a tricky spot and make it look pretty. This was our first visit to his office and it was a great experience. What a wonderful doctor. He has a great bedside manner and he’s handsome too! The staff was nice and friendly.
